What do we mean by women in leadership positions?
Women have equal representation and recognition, and shape policy, including decision-making on peace and security.
Numbers and representation matter! Girls lack female role models because they are under-represented in tertiary education, the media, narratives and positions of power. Schools lack women teachers and school managers. To overcome this disparity, Oxfam advocates for education systems that prioritize affirmative action to incentivize women teachers, supervisors, leaders and civil servants, for example, by providing safe transport, housing and incentives for postings in marginalized rural and urban areas as well as economic and professional development opportunities.
